Math 5
Math 5
Curriculum
Math 5 will focus on increasing math fact fluency and mastering the mathematical skills needed to be successful in pre-Algebra. The curriculum follows a spiral format, so most of the topics will be studied throughout grades 4-7 with increasing difficulty and complexity.
Each at-home lesson will be taught in class and the quiz and test lessons will also be administered during class. Students should be able to complete the at-home lessons with little or no parental help. Parents will need to time and grade the one minute timed drills and help with flash cards; these tasks could be done with a sibling. If the students are unable to complete the at-home lessons in the predicted timeframe, then they are possibly not ready for the class.
Math 5 covers:
- Data and Percent
- Division
- Fractions
- Geometry
- Decimal Computation and Concepts
- Rounding and Estimation
- Numbers
- Ratios and Proportions
- Algebra
Home Studies
- We will complete four to five lessons per week, and each lesson should take a maximum of 50 minutes.
- Regular progress reports will be sent to parents.
Prerequisites
- Students should be able to compute math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division at a rate of 30-40 per minute.
- Students must pass the Math 4 exit exam to be administered in the spring/summer by the Schola staff.
