Math 6
Curriculum
Math 6 will focus on increasing math fact fluency and mastering the mathematical skills needed to be successful in pre-Algebra. We use a spiral curriculum, so most of the topics will be studied throughout grades 4-6 with increasing difficulty level and complexity.
Each at-home lesson will be taught in class and we will complete the quiz and test lessons during class. Students should be able to complete the at-home lessons with little or no parental help. Parents will need to time and grade the one-minute timed drills and possibly help with flash cards and skip counting; these tasks could be done with a sibling. If the students are unable to complete the at-home lessons in the timeframe, then they are possibly not ready for the class.
Math 6 covers:
- Percent Concepts and Application
 - Division with Decimals
 - Fraction Multiplication
 - Geometry Facts and Application
 - Division with 3-Digit Divisors
 - Expressions and Equations
 - Primes and Factors
 - Proportions
 - Using Formulas
 - Exponents, Integers, and Coordinates

Home Studies
- We will complete four to five lessons per week, and each lesson should take a maximum of 60 minutes.
 - Regular progress reports will be sent to parents.

Prerequisites
- Students should be able to compute math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division at a rate of 30-40 per minute.
 - Students must pass the Math 5 exit exam to be administered in the spring/summer by the Schola staff.
